Govt bans onion exports to check high prices

Exports of all versions of onions, excluding people that are lower, sliced or in powder sort, have been banned by the federal government on Monday, with fast impact, in a move to verify spiralling charges in the nearby market.

The Directorate Basic of Overseas Trade, in a notification, specified that export of onions, which was so considerably totally free, is now prohibited. “The provisions under transitional arrangement shall not be applicable under this notification,” it additional.

In Delhi, onion charges have been ruling at a superior of about ₹ 40 per kilogram, triggering discontentment amongst consumers.
