TikTok chief Kevin Mayer quits in wake of Trump ban threat

Earlier this month, the US president signed an govt order to block TikTok if ByteDance did not conclusion the app’s US functions by the middle of September. A 7 days later, he issued a different order providing ByteDance 90 days to entire the offer.

In June, the firm was also on the receiving conclusion of a ban from the Indian government after it blocked 59 Chinese applications pursuing a border clash among India and China.

Mayer wrote to the Indian government declaring Beijing had never requested consumer knowledge, nor would TikTok flip it about if asked.

ByteDance has been in talks to market TikTok’s North American, Australian and New Zealand functions, which could be well worth $25bn (£18.9bn), to businesses including Microsoft Corp and Oracle, Reuters noted.

Mr Mayer only formally took up the part at TikTok on June one. 

TikTok reported: “We enjoy that the political dynamics of the past couple of months have significantly modified what the scope of Kevin’s part would be heading ahead, and totally respect his conclusion. We thank him for his time at the firm and wish him perfectly.”
